Why eLearning has been introduced.
The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) was set up to promote the safe and effective use of powered access worldwide. To achieve this we must ensure that our training is made available to as many people as possible while ensuring it contains the most up to date information and advice possible.
Our training has always contained two aspects, the theory, where you acquire the knowledge about what to do and what not to do, and a practical, where you start to develop the skills required to keep you and others safe while you operate AWPs. The emergence of eLearning will allow us to make the theory aspect of our training available to more and more people and while it will help with the practical it will not replace the need for it or the regular practice required to develop any skill.
What does it mean for trainees?
Trainees will be able to access the theory training in their own time, allowing them to work through it at their own pace and develop a thorough understanding of the AWPs they work with. It will test their knowledge so that when they come to do the practical training they can feel confident that they have acquired the necessary knowledge.
Trainees will still need to carry out a practical and theoretical exam, but by studying the theory in advance there should be more time available for trainees to practice and develop their skill at operating a AWPs.
They will receive a receipt once they have completed their eLearning which they can then take to a training center as proof that they have completed the eLearning. The trainee will still be required to complete a theory exam and then complete the practical aspect of the course.
What does it mean for trainers?
Trainers have always been under tight time constraints to deliver both the theory knowledge and develop the trainee’s practical skills. We hope that the new eLearning will provide the trainers with more time to focus on each trainee and ensure that they have as much practice on the AWPs as possible before carrying out the exam.
When is the eLearning launching and will it be available to me?
- The North American version of the eLearning will be launched in November 2015, with the Canadian version following shortly afterwards.
- In December the Dutch version for the Netherlands will be available.
- The English UK version will be available in February 2016 with other languages following in 2016.
Information for IPAF Training Centers
Training centers will be provided with their own version of the Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver the eLearning and to manage the trainees. Each training center is very welcome to have this URL customised to their own domain name and should do so by contacting BOLT Learning via https://support.boltlearning.com/
Training Centre branding options
The logo and background to the login screen may be customised per training centre brand or even per training center. If you would like to use your own image/logo please contact https://support.boltlearning.com/
Logo: At least 250px x 300px
Background: Should be 4:3 proportions. Recommend at least 800×600px.
Each training center will be provided with their own unique access code which they can issue to trainees wishing to do the module. This access code will ensure that the trainee’s information is linked to that particular training center and cannot be accessed by any others.
Training centers will also be able to issue training to a trainee via email or by SMS message.
When a trainee has completed the eLearning module they can download/print a receipt which provides evidence that they have completed the eLearning part of the course.
The eLearning is available in a classroom mode so that you can still offer classroom based training in addition to the online system. In order that users can download their receipts you must enter their details into the system either before or after the training session.
How to integrate with your own LMS / Training Management System
If you have your own LMS or training management system and you would like to integrate it with the new system to reduce the need for data entry or to allow online booking or such like please contact https://support.boltlearning.com/ There are numerous options available for this and we will be happy to discuss these with you.
